The World Reimagined

The World Reimagined is set to be the biggest public art education project for racial justice in the UK. It is an exciting new national programme that brings people together through art, dialogue and learning to consider our shared history so we can make racial justice a reality, together.



Schools in nine learning host cities will have the opportunity to engage with our Globe Programme through Artist Residencies.

These build on our core Learning Programme offer of Classroom Resources and Leadership in Teaching modules – co-created with artists and subject matter experts including Baroness Floella Benjamin; poet & playwright Inua Ellams; Professor Kehinde Andrews; and cast members from the West End’s Hamilton.

For the selected schools in each learning host city, Artist-Educators will work in the spring/summer 2022 with students, teachers and the entire school community to deliver the Learning Programme and create the school’s Globe – which will feature as part of The World Reimagined. In autumn 2022, the Art-Educator will return to the school for another, shorter residency to develop a bespoke plan for how that school can further embed arts-based learning for social justice.

This part of The World Reimagined programme is supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation – one of the largest independent grant-makers in the UK.



We are looking for Artist Educators who can go into schools as residents to support teachers and learners on the Globe Programme. This two year relationship will involve interacting with the school on a range of levels from teacher training to creating artist outputs with the young people. You will receive training and peer-support as a part of the role.

£4400 (22 sessions of engagement @ £200 per sessions – one session = half day)


Artistic Educators need to:

  • have experience of working with children, young people and schools
  • demonstrate the skills to work with teachers to deliver teacher training, develop thecurriculum of the school and set measurable targets (both qualitative and quantitative) i.e.: to improve confidence using artistic mediums or increase theaverage attainment in STEM subjects
  • engage students’ creativity and imagination to probe the complexities that empowertheir sense of agency and role as problem solvers
  • allow students to engage with political ideas and develop stances rooted in their life experiences
  • create a learning space that allows for a holistic endeavour, including academic and social-emotional learning
  • create processes and structures that empower genuine co-creation, co-design, and collaboration with educational stakeholders, including students, educators, and families
  • connect the fight for educational justice with racial justice
  • understand visual symbols that have played an important role in historical activism and movements
  • examine and reference other artists’ roles in activist movements to deepen multicultural comprehension and teaching for social justice
  • aim to expand the teaching of the Transatlantic slave trade to include the stories of resilience and resistance
  • work to break the institutional racism that has dictated lower expectations and harsher discipline for students of colour

  • Your location and ability to connect with a school in one of the learning host cities (Birmingham, Bristol, Brighton & Hove, Greater Manchester, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool City Region, London and Swansea)

Following the allocation of the bursaries to the chosen schools, the World Reimagined will work with schools to identify which artist they would like to work with. Artists will be informed if they have been selected by early March 2022.
