The World Reimagined

Take Part In The Artist Open Call!

Calling all UK based visual artists working in the mediums of paint, photography, drawing, mosaic, sculpture and collage.

We are delighted to invite artists from across the UK to bring their perspective, talent and creativity to The World Reimagined by submitting designs for one of the ten fibreglass Globe sculptures in each of our host cities  that are the centrepiece of our project to inspire a national conversation.

Our Open Call asks artists to create designs that respond to our Journey of Discovery – nine themes that help to illuminate people’s understanding of our shared history.

The Open Call is FREE to enter, and all commissions are PAID, with an additional budget for materials. The Open Call is open to any and all artists with a base in the UK.

The DEADLINE for entry has been extended by one month to 5PM on MONDAY 31 JANUARY.

The final commissions will be chosen by The World Reimagined Open Call Jury. The selected designs and their subsequent Globe sculptures will sit alongside the work of invited established artists; collaborations between artists and communities; and collaborations between artists and icons.

Each artist commissioned by the Open Call Jury will be awarded £1,500 on installation of their Globe. There will also be a £150 materials budget available to each artist once they formally accept the commission.

After the Globe charity auction in December 2022, artists whose Globe has sold will receive 10% of net profit raised by their Globe at auction. The remaining will go to charitable racial equity causes.

Your submission – via our online portal – must be completed before 5pm on 31 January 2022

The submission process and form is really simple – and as long as you have all the below information ready, will take about 10 minutes to complete.

What do you need to submit?

Each artist will need to submit the following information about themselves.

  • Contact details and permissions to use your data in association with this project
  • A Word doc or PDF of your artistic biography (up to 300 words)
  • Answers to a few practical questions (location, studio options, marketing etc)
  • (Optional) A single file of up to 10MB that contains up to five examples or your previous work
  • (Optional) Links to your social media and/or website.

Each artist can submit either one or two designs. For each design you will need to:

    1. Select which theme from the Journey of Discovery your design responds to
    2. Upload a high-res (300dpi) landscape image to the equivalent ratio of: 67.73cm x 38.1cm of your Globe design, up to a maximum size of 10MB.
    3. Upload a Word doc or PDF which explains (i) your design and why you chose your theme (up to 300 words); (ii) your preferred medium (up to 150 words)
    4. (Optional) A link to a one-minute video you have created explaining your idea.

Once you have submitted this information for one design, you will be given the opportunity to repeat the process for a second design, if you’d like to. If you only have one design, or when you have submitted your second, you will then have the option to complete your application.

Please make sure you’ve read our Rules & Guidelines and our Privacy Policy.

And when you’re ready, complete the form:

The World Reimagined is committed to creating an inclusive process for all artists. If you require access support, or have any questions or difficulties with the submission process, please get in touch with John Paul Cherrington, who will be happy to assist you.

The base Globe sculpture will be an identical fibreglass & resin hollow Globe, 140cm in diameter, with a total height of 168cm including the base. It will weigh between 40kg-60kg without its concrete base, which will be attached onsite during installation. You will finish your globe with a weather resistant and anti-graffiti lacquer that we will provide.

Artists are advised not to make any structural changes to the Globe.

Your Globe will be delivered to The World Reimagined studio spaces on steel stilts.

We will be opening Artist Studios in each of the host cities for accepted artists to create their Globes. You may not use the public Artist Studio for any other purpose aside from Globe creation.

If you have a private studio you may use this to create your Globe instead. If you are using a private studio you will be responsible for the transport of the globe and associated costs.
