The World Reimagined

Port Sunlight Village Trust

"While the village’s founder, William Lever, was shaping positive social reforms here on the Wirral, he was also setting up colonial plantations in places like Central Africa and the Solomon Islands. Now, for the first time in its history, Port Sunlight Village Trust is reckoning with the conflicted duality of Lever as a historical figure. With the creative inspiration from The World Reimagined, we can all play a part in imagining a racially-just world into being."
Paul Harris, Chief Executive, Port Sunlight Village Trust

We’re thrilled for Port Sunlight Village Trust to be a part of The World Reimagined – excitingly, both as the partner for the Wirral’s Globe and as the host of a local school’s Learning Globe at our heritage site.

Port Sunlight Village Trust (PSVT) is custodian of Port Sunlight, an incredibly unique heritage site, visitor destination, and independent residential and business community. This industrial model village was built by William Lever in the late 19th-century, for the workers at his soapmaking factory, Lever Brothers. It is the world’s finest planned working-class community. PSVT is the independent charitable trust that has been responsible for the conservation of the village for the last 20 years. Its vision is ‘to make Port Sunlight an inspiring place to live, work and visit.

We’re taking active steps to transform the ways in which our heritage estate addresses the colonial legacy hidden behind the beautiful architecture and gardens. The World Reimagined shines a light on the era of transatlantic enslavement that preceded Lever’s colonial dealings. As such, it’s a chance for our visitors and village residents alike to gain a deeper understanding of the ways that racist systems evolve over time.

The World Reimagined is a company limited by guarantee (#12501914) and a registered charity (#1195223).
